Update to key terms for AI Governance
IAPP AI Governance Centre has just released an updated glossary, "Key Terms for AI Governance," enhancing the toolkit for both emerging and experienced AI governance professionals. Originally comprising 61 terms, this glossary now features eight new key additions, reflecting the dynamic nature of AI governance.
The inclusion of terms like "Adversarial Machine Learning," "Deepfakes," "Disinformation," and "Misinformation" emphasises the growing relevance of addressing AI-related harms. These terms are integral to the evolving risks of generative AI and underline the potential threats to democracy, civil rights, and human dignity.
Furthermore, existing definitions underwent certain refinements to improve accuracy. For instance, the definition of “large language model” was updated to explain that the word "large" also refers to the size of the dataset in addition to the size and number of parameters.
As a Privacy Analyst, I believe this update is a crucial step in developing a common language for the multidisciplinary field of AI governance. With AI governance becoming increasingly vital in our technological landscape, a common vernacular ensures effective communication across disciplines and stakeholders.
AI governance is crucial to ensure the ethical use of technology, promoting transparency, safety, privacy, accountability, and fairness. In a world where technology and regulations are in constant flux, having an updated glossary is paramount to staying informed and regulating the complex terrain of AI governance.
